It’s funny how our ideas are never quite right. David says “Lions are notoriously bad sellers when it comes to commercial art”. But ‘It’s a Hard Life’, (Asian lion drawing), originally a commission for a collector, sold out quickly.
It’s a great pose. Nothing needs to be added to this drawing. David’s technique here conveys the waviness of this lions main, and also his laid back half alert look; like a soldier with one eye open all the time, yet he’s is clearly relaxed, maybe even asleep. But I dare anyone to try to creep up on him!
